Water & Wastewater Filtration RFQ Checklist

A good filtration quote starts with good process information. For water and wastewater applications, the same product name can refer to very different operating conditions. A filter bag, cartridge, or housing that works in one system may not fit another system if the liquid, solids, flow rate, pressure, temperature, or housing design is different.

Use this checklist to prepare the information Go2Filter needs to review your request and suggest a practical RFQ next step.

1. What Are You Trying to Filter?

Start with the filtration goal. Are you trying to:

  • remove visible suspended solids
  • protect pumps, nozzles, valves, membranes, or downstream equipment
  • reduce process debris before reuse or discharge
  • prefilter wastewater before another treatment stage
  • replace an existing filter bag or cartridge
  • improve filter life or reduce changeout frequency
  • compare bag filtration and cartridge filtration

If you are not sure which product type you need, explain the problem in practical terms. For example: "We need to remove fine rust particles before a spray nozzle," or "We are replacing filter bags too often in a wastewater prefilter."

2. Describe the Liquid

Water and wastewater applications can vary widely. Please provide:

  • water type or process source
  • wastewater source, if applicable
  • pH range, if known
  • temperature
  • whether oils, chemicals, solvents, biological solids, or process residues are present
  • whether the liquid is clean water, process water, cooling water, wash water, or mixed wastewater

Do not assume that all water-based liquids are compatible with the same media. Industrial wastewater may contain chemicals or contaminants that affect material selection.

3. Describe the Solids

The solids determine the filtration load and influence filter life. Helpful details include:

  • particle type, such as sand, scale, fibers, paint, sludge, biological solids, metal fines, or process debris
  • approximate particle size
  • whether the solids are hard, soft, sticky, fibrous, oily, or abrasive
  • whether solids appear continuously or only during certain process steps
  • how often the current filter plugs or needs replacement

Photos of the liquid, solids, used filter bags, or clogged cartridges can help.

4. Provide the Target Micron Rating

If you know the micron rating, include it in the request. If you do not know it, explain the filtration target:

  • coarse debris removal
  • visible particle reduction
  • pump or nozzle protection
  • prefiltration before a finer stage
  • process clarity improvement
  • equipment protection

Micron rating should be reviewed together with flow rate, solids loading, liquid viscosity, pressure drop, and filter type.

5. Confirm Flow Rate and Pressure

Flow rate and pressure help determine the filter area and housing size. Please provide:

  • normal flow rate
  • maximum flow rate
  • operating pressure
  • maximum pressure
  • acceptable pressure drop, if known
  • whether the system runs continuously or in batches

If the filter is undersized, service life may be short and pressure drop may increase quickly.

6. Check Temperature

Temperature affects filter media, rings, seals, gaskets, housings, and service life. Include:

  • normal operating temperature
  • maximum operating temperature
  • whether temperature changes during cleaning or process cycles

7. Identify the Product Type You Need

Liquid Filter Bags

For filter bags, provide:

  • bag size, such as size #1, size #2, or custom
  • material, such as polyester, polypropylene, nylon mesh, or another media
  • micron rating
  • ring or collar type
  • seam style, if known
  • current supplier or part number, if available
  • quantity per order

If you are replacing an existing filter bag, photos and measurements are useful.

Filter Cartridges

For cartridges, provide:

  • cartridge type, such as melt blown, pleated, high flow, or stainless steel
  • length
  • outside diameter and inside diameter
  • micron rating
  • end cap style
  • gasket or O-ring material
  • media material
  • current part number, if available
  • housing model or photos

End cap and gasket details are especially important for replacement cartridges.

Bag or Cartridge Housings

For housings, provide:

  • housing type
  • material preference, such as stainless steel, carbon steel, or plastic
  • number of bags or cartridges
  • flow rate
  • pressure rating
  • connection size and type
  • closure type
  • installation space limits
  • drawing or photos, if available

Housings are often project-specific. Pricing and delivery depend on design, material, pressure rating, and configuration.

8. Provide Quantity and Lead-Time Needs

Please include:

  • trial quantity
  • regular order quantity
  • annual estimated usage, if known
  • target delivery date
  • whether samples are needed
  • whether custom size or private label is required

9. Send Photos, Drawings, or Existing Part Numbers

If you are replacing an existing filter, send:

  • used filter photos
  • clean filter photos
  • housing nameplate
  • cartridge end cap photos
  • bag ring/collar photos
  • dimensions
  • drawings
  • existing part numbers

This helps reduce back-and-forth and improves quote accuracy.

10. Example RFQ Message

You can use this format:

We need filtration support for a water/wastewater application. The liquid is [describe liquid]. The solids are [describe solids]. Target filtration is [micron or goal]. Flow rate is [value]. Operating pressure is [value]. Temperature is [value]. Current housing/filter details are [details]. Quantity needed is [quantity]. Photos/drawings are attached. Please recommend suitable filter bags, cartridges, or housings.

FAQ

What information do I need for a filter bag quote?

Provide bag size, material, micron rating, ring or collar type, liquid type, solids type, flow rate, temperature, pressure, quantity, and photos if available.

What information do I need for a cartridge quote?

Provide cartridge length, diameter, micron rating, media material, end cap style, gasket material, housing details, liquid conditions, flow rate, quantity, and any existing part number.

Can Go2Filter review custom filtration requests?

Go2Filter can review custom filtration requests when the buyer provides dimensions, process conditions, quantity, photos, or drawings. Final availability depends on product type and specification review.

Should I choose filter bags or cartridges?

Filter bags are often reviewed for practical solids removal and prefiltration. Cartridges may be reviewed for finer filtration, specific cartridge housings, or higher surface area. The best choice depends on your process goal and operating conditions.
